An important aspect to highlight in 2022 is the opening of a specific shelter for the care of male children and adolescents who are victims of human trafficking by the La Alianza Association, with the support of international cooperation.

In Guatemala, institutions coordinate protection actions with specialized shelters for the care and protection of children and adolescents who are victims or survivors of human trafficking, which have multidisciplinary teams and services derived from protection measures in shelters or on an outpatient basis in different departments of the country.

Comprehensive care includes, as defined by the Interinstitutional Coordination Protocol for the Protection and Care of Victims of Human Trafficking, timely, differentiated and specialized intervention for victims or survivors of this crime, which focuses its efforts on the emotional recovery and integrity of the person, in order to guarantee the restitution and empowerment of their human rights. Comprehensive care for a victim who has survived human trafficking should include: food, clothing, hygiene services, health and nutritional care, legal advice, psychology, psychiatry, social care, educational and technical-labor training programs, recreation and/or sports, spirituality, among others.

Un aspecto importante de resaltar en el año 2022, es la apertura de un albergue específico para la atención de niños y adolescentes hombres víctimas de trata de personas, en condiciones de movilidad humana por parte de Asociación La Alianza, con el apoyo de cooperación internacional.

En Guatemala las instituciones coordinan acciones de protección con albergues especializados para la atención y protección a niñez y adolescencia víctima o sobreviviente de trata de personas, que cuentan con equipos multidisciplinarios y servicios derivados de medidas de protección en albergues o en forma ambulatoria en diferentes departamentos del país.

La atención integral comprende, como lo define el Protocolo de Coordinación Interinstitucional para la Protección y Atención a Víctimas de Trata de Personas, la intervención oportuna, diferenciada y especializada para las víctimas o sobrevivientes de este crimen, que centra sus esfuerzos en la recuperación emocional e integridad de la persona, a fin de garantizar la restitución y empoderamiento de sus derechos humanos. La atención integral a una víctima sobreviviente de trata de personas debe incluir: alimentación, vestuario, servicios de higiene, atención de salud y nutricional, asesoría jurídica, psicología, psiquiatría, atención social, programas educativos y de capacitación técnico laboral, recreación y/o deporte, espiritualidad, entre otros.
